Intro to Competition Shooting

Short Description: This is a three-hour course. One hour in the classroom and two-hours on a “tactical” range

More Details: You'll get tons of trigger time in our SIRT/BladeTech DryFire Zone. We start you off with our SIRT (Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger) laser pistols and BladeTech competition holsters. The student will also utilize the LASR (Laser Activated Shot Reporter) to evaluate speed and shot placement on single and multiple targets. We'll send you home with not only the skills needed to safely compete, but also safe holster and dry practice drills that you can do at home to maintain and enhance your self defense skills. The best part of the class is the 2nd day when you're actually on a range shooting your first competition.

This 3 hour class (plus one evening of actual competition) will cover:

  • Equipment selection and choosing a USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) division for competition.
  • Basics of range safety.
  • Target scoring.
  • Safely drawing from a holster.
  • Safe and efficient magazine changes.
  • Marksmanship skills for competition shooting.
  • Moving and shooting.
  • Engaging multiple targets
  • Breaking down a course of fire.
  • DryFire practice
  • Finding local competition.

On the day after your classroom training, we'll head to Rockford, IL to shoot your first competition under the guidance of your instructors.

Students will provide their own safe firearm (appropriate for competition) and safe holster for their model pistol, as well as a 3 to 5 extra magazines and mag pouches. All students may use our equipment in class free of charge and rent one of our complete rigs for range use. No firearms ammunition needed for the classroom portion, but for the range portion we suggest 100 to 200 rounds of ammunition.

Due to safety concerns and competition rules, shoulder holsters, inside the waistband, and small of the back holsters will not be permitted.

(Prerequisite - An Illinois CCL Class, NRA Basic Pistol Class, or Permission of the instructor.)
